About MugValue
MugValue is a price guide for the 200 Moomin mugs Arabia has made since 1990. It exists because collectors ask the same two questions – which mug is this, and what is it worth – and the answers were scattered across auction sites, Facebook groups and dealer lists.
Where the prices come from
Every night we collect listings that actually sold on Tradera in Sweden and Huuto in Finland – 3,271 sales so far. Unsold and withdrawn listings are ignored. Each listing is matched to a catalogue mug by its title and, when the title is ambiguous, by comparing the photo against our image index.
Catalogue facts – names, years, series, backstamps – come from Moomin Characters' mug guide, Moomin Arabia's archive, Finnish Wikipedia and the dealer Muumimukit Rahaksi. Where sources disagree we say so on the mug's page.
How a value is calculated
The value shown is the median of sales in the last 90 days, after removing single sales that are more than three times above or below the rest. When fewer than three recent sales exist we fall back to the all-time median, and when none exist we show a dealer estimate and label it as such.
Prices are stored in their original currency and converted at the European Central Bank's daily rate. A mug is worth what people pay for it, which differs between Finland and Sweden; the ledger on each page shows every sale with its source so you can judge for yourself.
How the scanner works
Your photo is compared with thousands of real photos of identified mugs using an image-similarity model that runs on our server. The photo is discarded after the match. It is not used to train anything.
Independent
MugValue is not affiliated with Moomin Characters Oy Ltd, Fiskars, Arabia, Tradera or Huuto. Mug images are used for identification and are the property of their owners.
Links to shops may be affiliate links, which pay us a small commission at no cost to you. They never affect the values we show.
